5 Tips For Healthier You in 2022
There is no doubt that the past two years have been challenging for most of us. The COVID-19 pandemic has taken a toll on our lives mercilessly.
Any Kenyan (as I'm I) or citizen of the world who follows the local news closely will recall these famous words from the health cabinet secretary Mutahi Kagwe - who was quite ferocious in the fight against the respiratory pandemic from the start.
He once said that “if we treat this disease in the normal way, it will treat us 'abnormally'.”

While getting vaccinated and masking up are the order of the day as we come to a close in 2021, one thing is for sure. You cannot afford to forget to prioritize your overall healthy lifestyle both physically and mentally. With a good health plan, even small changes can give awesome results over time.
Still not sure how to get started? Don’t worry! Read on to discover The Five Well's tips for a healthier you in 2022.
1. Adopt a Healthier Diet
While being thin is more associated with poverty and malnutrition in Africa, more and more kenyans are learning the importance of keeping fit and maintaining healthy weight. Many people are refraining from the western diets and adopting healthier, natural, and traditional foods these days.
All the same, a healthy eating plan is balanced and helps in managing your weight. According to doctors and nutritionists, a healthy eating plan includes dark green leafy vegetables, different types of fruits, fresh herbs, vegetables, whole grains, proteins, and so forth.
They are loaded with essential vitamins, fibers, and minerals needed for a healthy body.

Also, don’t forget to stay hydrated by taking in enough clean water and fluids every day. Consider consulting your nutritionist for specialized nutritional advice. An expert nutritionist will examine you and offer a healthy eating plan tailor-made specifically for you.
2. Exercise Regularly
Truth be told, staying physically fit has innumerable benefits in our bodies. Health professionals have always emphasized this. Exercising regularly boosts your cardiovascular and muscular health, helping fight diseases.
Additionally, regular exercising helps the body relieve stress and depression and improves your overall mental well-being.
Remember, the COVID-19 pandemic (has) affected many people mentally, and seeking ways to stabilize your mental health in 2022 remains (was) crucial. So, as recommended by the American Heart Association, putting in at least 150 minutes of moderate to intensive aerobic exercise every week and at least 2 days of muscle-strengthening activities come in handy.
3. Maintain a Regular Sleep Schedule – And Get Adequate Shut-Eye
Among other things, the COVID-19 pandemic has undoubtedly disrupted sleeping patterns for many folks. The lack of adequate sleep makes you grumpy and foggy, negatively affecting your health, sex life, mood, energy, and appearance. That’s why doctors recommend a regular sleep pattern with about eight hours of sleep every night.
For that matter, establish a regular bedtime and wake-up time. Also, switch off all electronics before going to bed and avoid caffeine products later in the day. Research also shows that sufficient enough sleep is essential in strengthening our immune system.
Don’t forget, having a strong healthy immune system gives us additional barrier protection in developing COVID-19 infection even as most of us continue to get vaccinated.
4. Protect Yourself from COVID-19
Even in 2022, we must still stay safe against the devastating COVID-19 pandemic by practicing safety measures and guidelines set by the world health organization. We must not loosen the grip just because most of us have acquired the vaccine or the infection rates have gone down (if they have).
To stay healthy and safe, ensure you wear a face mask all the time and maintain a safe distance from others while in public places. Wash your hands with a soap or detergent, sanitizing surfaces using an alcohol-based sanitizer. If you haven’t, get vaccinated for covid-19, and inquire from the health attendants whether or not you need a follow-up dose
5. Practice Mindfulness, Giving Yourself Time to Heal

Another tip for a healthy 2022 is learning to be fully present at the moment and choosing to only focus on the positive results daily. Things like stress, anxiety, and depression do not contribute anything positive to your overall health wellness, so keep them at bay this year.
2022 should be a year you give yourself time to heal your body, mind, and soul – be it from a breakup, depression, bad decisions, disappointments, and so forth.
For most people, 2020 and 2021 were quite challenging financially, physically, and emotionally. As you approach 2022, the above few tips can help you usher in the New Year strong, healthy and hopeful.
You don’t have to complicate anything, just get started right where you are with what you have. Good luck!

This post was written back in 2022 when Covid-19, the lethal viral disease took a toll on literally everyone's guts . From moms to dads, casual laborers to professionals, 500-company CEOs to employees, we all had one thing in common.
In Common:
No one was 100 percent immune to coronavirus and effects!
Of those who were priviledged enough to keep their jobs, many had to work from home, most probably for a fraction of their original pay. And for anyone who cares to remember, covid claimed millions of lives around the globe, but that's not the biggest takeaway.
Covid-19 taught us several life lessons too! More on This Later.
